“Worry About Wheat” (Matthew’s Gospel 13:24-30)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Saudi Arabia has been fighting with Houthi rebels of Yamen and has recent lost three more cities so that they have lost to control Bab al Mandab Strait of Red Sea, which is one of important route of oil shipping lane with Hormuz. How can the nation that is spending a great number of military budgets in the world be defeated by a rebel of a nearby nation?
Saudi Arabia is monarchy which king rules people. And the biggest oil industry in the world belongs to family of the king. People have no right to elect their ruler. Aramco is the biggest oil company in the world. This nation as near Arabic nations entrusts nation defense by mercenary.
They buy soldiers for national defense from another nations as Pakistan with oil money. They buy every year cutting-edge- weapons by plentiful oil money as F-15 bomber but ground troops are almost soldiers from foreigner. They are the hired military of king while Houthis are the volunteered military of people. That is why this result appears.
Today Bible let us know a parable about wheat and weeds. Let us listen voice of Jesus Christ on how much loving His own soul.
Let us read together Matthew’s Bible 13:27-30,
““The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from? “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. The servants asked him ‘Do you want us to go and to pull them up?’ ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At the time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; the gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.”
This story is a parable on kingdom of God by Jesus Christ to his people. Jesus Christ explained about why God’s judgement so has delayed on the evil in the world?
It seems to be late on the unjust world. The evil seems to win over the good. It seems God overlook on it. But this story let us know heart of God on how much love us as the good seed of soul.
The owner of the field sowed the good seeds in spring but later his enemy came and sowed the weeds among the wheat. When the servants found the sprout of the weed, they wanted to pull them out, but the owner said not to do it. “Because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them.” the owner did not want to heart the wheat. When the harvest came, he wanted to take weeds into burning and to bring them into ban.
Verse 24-25 say,
“Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.”
The key point from this parable is the good seed of the God. The good seed means children of God and the owner of the seed is God. And the weed is the evil and the enemy is Satan. God sow good seeds, but enemy always sow weeds among good seed.
The good seeds are distressed by weed while they are growing to be wheat. While being distressed the wheat are growing well because of the quality of the good seed designed by God.
So, wheat becomes good and abundant fruit in harvest time while weeds become fruitless. Weeds only may distress wheat but cannot block the wheat from becoming fruits.
When the weed first looks healthy and strong and the wheat looks weak rather. So, farmers want to pull it out to protect the wheat. But the root of the weed is located deeply close to the root of the wheat. If the farmer tried to pull them out forcibly, the root of the wheat may be uprooted together as well. Wheat can be lost while pulling the weeds.
In today Bible the owner is good, and He did not want to lose any wheat in the field sowed by himself. He so much loves us in this complicated world where evil looks to win and distress on the good.
Lots of seeds are sowed in the field and some seeds can be lost to earn effectiveness. This is rule of the world. But God has different rule to keep His own seed of faith. He tries to keep any seed of soul and wants not to lose anyone in His field of life.
God does not want to lose any soul who deserved to be saved by God. This is mind of the loving God of the creation. There is not the term of “Sacrifice of minority for the majority” in God.
God only take care of each soul. God does not care of us as group. Each soul is all important to God creator and redeemer.
Human chooses things to look good, but God chooses things to being good. God does not give up any soul that created by Himself. This is the heart of the Creator of all lives in the world.
Verse 29 say,
“No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them.”
God worry about wheat not weed. God worry about His children not the evil. He focuses on His faithful children deserved to be saved.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord.
We are the seeds of God that love so much. We must keep this faith seed in this complicated world where evil sometimes distress us by. Saints must endure for glory of God.
Even though weeds of the secular world distress you in life, you must win by faith over the evil and have not to stop the way of trusting God. We as children of God must earn fruits of faith in live.
Let us pray, worship, grow diligently in receiving Word of God so that grow our body and spirit until reaching the fruits of righteousness and life.
This is why God give us good seed and good field in our life.
Peter became good fruits through long endurance and waiting, and Paul earned great spiritual fruits by long loyalty to God as well.
Psalm 37:7 say,
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men success in their ways. When they carry out their wicked schemes.”
Our goal as children of God is different to their own outside of God. They want achievement but we want to perfection in God. They want victory but we want thanksgiving.
One faithful man focused on faith life while working in his company. He always preferred to choose God’s work rather than others. He gave up any chance to promote for service to God. Later he remained in his company while his partners all left there to retire. He became elder of his church to serve people for work of God. People said that he had fulfilled successful faith and life. But he confesses that everything God has done.
Psalm 37:9, 11, say,
“for evil men will be cut off, but those hope in the Lord will inherit the land, The meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.”
God be with all of you, Amen.
