“Kingdom Will Be The Lord’s” (Obadiah 1:15-21)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

Illiterate is a hot issue in recent society of Korea. More than 60% of people do not read a page of a book in a month. They are watching social media to get information. Ability of reading comprehension is going lower. But literacy is becoming crucial point of AI era.

Janson Whang, head of Nvidia said human language will be more important in digital environment.

Literacy is the muscle of cognitive ability. Reading comprehension is power in AI era. Young children in recent school class used not to understand as difficult language having deep meanings as “Exclusive Economic Zone” “Privatization”.  And some of them do not make sense of easy terms and they struggle to read more than 4 pages of books to concentrate.

It is important to keep the basics in complicated and changing environment as digital era with AI. Reading Bible daily is important to understand as reading news to understand.

Today Bible let us know how God’s people rely on Lord in hard time.

Let’s read together 1:19-21.

“People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau, and people from the foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria and Benjamin will possess Gilead. This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan will possess the land, and far as Zarephath; the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the towns of the Negev. Deliverers will go up Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord’s”

Edom was residing near Israel from time of Genesis. They were descendent of Esau who was the twin brother of Jabob. But they have been bothering Isreal historically.

When Israel did Exodus, Moses tried to avoid Edom’s land heading to promised land to avoid conflict with them on their way.
But Edom treated Isreal with hard and gave painful memories. When Babylon destroyed Jerusalem. Edom plundered them after that.

They seemed a kind of bad rival to Isreal as near neighbor. God sent a servant, Obadiah to them in proclaiming repentance. If they keep to treating people of God with unjust way, God will give them what they did on Israel. If they pay them with evil, God will repay them instead.

Israel was recovered their country after 70 years exiles, but Edom was destroyed by other nations and never been recovered more. Verse 21 says,

“Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord’s”

Children of God is keeping seeing and to listen always. Keeping this way of saints can be way of protecting themselves in hard and risky times.

Keeping relying on God is way of protecting our faith and life in this sinful world. Even though brothering neighbors or hard rivals comes to us, if we are cling to God, we will be safe and recovered all that lost.

When we follow God and wait Him and go right way in Him, our faithful Lord will be with us always.

The way of winning of saints is not the result but process. It is how we are in Word of God. This is not matter of success but for maturity.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

God loves love and justice, and patience and pity. We must practice them in our everyday life. This is our strength and blessing.

World asks us to repay what we received but God asks us not to repay as they do and give them to God’s hand. Methodology is message to children of God. Let’s do not take way that God doesn’t please. This is our limitation but our strength.

Judgement belongs to God not to us. When we follow the will of pleasing God we will be strengthened in the world so that the world cannot touch us. God will let us win all sin and world.

Romans 12:20-21 says,

“On the contrary: “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.”

Jesus said to Peter when he cut one side of ear of a man in arresting the Lord, “put your back in its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.”

Apostles Paul have been in many persecutions while his journey to delivering gospel of the Lord. But he did not repay anything to them. He focused on only souls’ salvation and concentrated on Lord. So, many fruits of heaven are made in the world.

Let us see only God and follow his faithful will in difficult time and situation. This is our strength before God and in the world.

Matthew’s Gospel 14:31 say,

“immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “Why did you doubt?”

One faithful man has been struggling with his bad rival in business relations. He was about to get sick from it. He was thinking about giving up. But he thought to focus Word of God more instead. He stopped to react the rival and spend time with God instead. Later all matters were resolved better, and his faith grew more. He confesses that God’ way is better than my own.

Psalm 34:14-15 says,

“Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.”

God be with all of you, Amen.
