“Becoming Holy By Hand Of God” (Ephesians 4:17-24)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

When new year comes, people head to the mountain or seashore to see sunrise. Some people used to clean up house or office while some used to change clothes or habits.

Some of them go to a fortune telling house to want to hear their fortune. Why do people do this whenever new year comes? They want to be new when new time comes to them.

People want to be changed new once new year comes. This means that they want to leave heavy or hard times of past. Their wish reflects this kind of hope for new life through certain times of opportunity.

As clothes become dirty after working all day we must clean up and change new clothes for next day. This mind reflects new wishes or hopes in new year time.

We, children of God have wish to be new at new year time. How do we have to be new? What kind of change do we have to be? It must be what God pleases.

Let us read together 4:21-24,

“Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self; which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; To be made new in the attitude of your minds; And to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

What children of God must put off is clear. We must put off old self with deceitful desires. And to put on new self-created to be like God in righteousness and holiness.

Old self creates sin while new self creates image of God. Old self is not being born again life while new self is born-again life.

As we do shower every day, we must clean up our mind everyday by Word of God to be made new.

Human desire is basically not good so we can be in dark mind or thinking easily. If we do not try to make our mind new, we feel unhappy easily.

We must do filling with God’s mind and go through in our heart always. That is the way to keep our life healthy and blessed.

All goals of life cannot go through. When we catch present one, the next one comes to us soon. It is never ending work.

There is no break time without God who give us true rest.  When we walk with God we can mature and fruitful. When we grow knowledge or experience with God, we can become happy and please.

When we are with God, we can be free from sin that make us hard and exhausted spiritually and physically.

When we are attached to Lord, we can make good fruits of life. Because all sources of blessings come from Lord not world or humans.

John’ Gospel 15:5 say,

God be with all of you, “I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

We are not being bear our self. Once God make us bear, we bear. Only trough God we can bear all kind of good things in life.

Brothers and sister in the Lord,

Do yourself to remain in God, do not hesitate to belong to God our Lord. That makes us fruitful and sincere. Because He is the source of all blessing in life. Let us belong to a church physically and belong to Lord spiritually.

In this exact time of new year, please be eager to see God and to serve what God pleases.

Josiah, the King do Judea loved God, so he tried to repair the temple of God in Jerusalem and found the book of the Law of God in it. Once he has read it, he repents his sin and his heart remained in God more steadfastly.

He asked his people of Israel to remain in God more than past. And people followed what their king asked so that their county could keep their nation from corruption spiritually and historically. Recovery of Word of God made them survived.

In 1907, there was a great revival movement of faith in Pyongyang. People understood what problems were when they heard Word of God. They have been finding problems from others. But there have not any answers.

But they found problems on their own, they started to find true answers. That is why they repent their own sins instead of blaming others. These people’s repentance has led to beginning making new society and country.

When Abrahm have sold idols, his life was useless. But when he heard and remain in God, he became Father of faith.

When Paul chased people with anger, his life was meaningless. But when he listened voice of the risen Lord and remained in Him, he became a great life to lead many souls to be saved in God.

When John Newton have been selling slaves, his life was evil and dangerous, but after repenting before God he became a life to deliver gospel of Jesus Christ, leading people to salvation of God. He made a great hymn, “Amazing grace how sweet?”

Let us head our eye to God from world. This is true start to become new. We cannot be new without God.

If whenever we try to make change new without God, we might become not new.

John’s Gospel 15:7 say,

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.”

One scholar in 1890s, could have a chance to attend worship service of a church in dark history of Korea under Japanese colonization. He was surprised to see people singing Hymn and learning Word of God by Korean language. He understood how God is sincere and he repent and followed what God pleased.

He became a good Christian to believe God sincere and teach people and they could remain in God.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overdue with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

God be with all of you, Amen.
