“Followed The Way of God” (I Samuel 26:21-25)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

Last week workers from South Korea in battery plant of Georgia were detained by ICE of border police. They were in process of installing equipment in plants but have been in prison for a week due to Visa statues. World was shocked by this incident because they were believed as special engineers to support US high tech industry and manufacturing reshoring.

The second shocking point was that when US president suggested them to give chance to stay more, all of them refused to stay US anymore. They all returned home to their country, and they didn’t want to return US to continue working.

This happened while negotiation between South Korea and US on 3.5 million investments as a condition of tariff. So many people think that this huge crackdown on ally nation workers seemed to come as mean of pressure as impact effect. But result might not be what they intended.

From this incident many allies seem to begin seeking more secure ways to keep their nation’s resources. This showed how much US is getting desperate on weak economic situation as superpower. They seem not to have enough space to embrace even ally amid competition for supremacy with China. Impatience might be lost big paradoxically.

South Korea might seek efficient ways to keep their own, in this unstable situation of the competition of the world. And they can find the way from Bible. Today Bible teaches us know how we can find the Godly way in unstable and risky situation.

Let us read together I Samuel 26:21-23,

“Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Come back, David my son, because you considered my life precious today, I will not try to harm you again. Surely, I have acted like a fool and have erred greatly. “Here is the king’s spear,” David answered. “Let one of your young men come over and get it. The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. The Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.”

King Saul was jealous David whom all people and God loved. David had to flee due to Saul’s chase to kill him. But David could escape from him. When Saul surrounded David by his army in a hill country. But David had a chance to enter secretly the camp of Saul and a chance to kill Saul.

But he did not kill but take Saul’s spear because he believed that God did not want to kill the anointed, Saul. And he asked later in safe zone to Saul not to chase more and Saul said sorry before his people. God pleased David to follow way of God and later David blessed by God to be king of Israel.

Verse 24 say,

“As surely as I valued your life today, so may the Lord value my life and deliver me from all trouble.”

David chose the way of God not the way from human mind. He did not blame even Saul but asked blessing from God before all people watching him.

Jesus Christ says to love your enemy. Apostle Paul says to pray for your enemy instead. That will be like putting fire bowls on their head. It means that God will resolve it better than me.

Matthew’s Gospel 5:38-40 say,

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him on the other side also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.”

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

If we can choose this way, we must believe first what God is faithful and perfect. If we can lose everything, God will recover better things on us. Competitor wants our present, but God will give us future thing bigger.

People of Korea might choose the way from teaching of God with patience and righteousness. Korea has suffered Qing dynasty of China who was super power 16 century due to support Ming dynasty. They wanted to keep reliance with Ming that supported before in war with Japan.

Voluntary obedience is key element of superpower. Justification always comes from righteousness. And righteousness is formed by consideration to the weak. This is why people of Korea has kept their own independent civilization at near strong China civilization.

It was important for them to choose righteousness not power. This might be crucial element to lead world as leading civilization.

Romans 12:20-21 say,

“On the contrary; “if your enemy is hungry, feed him, if he is thirsty, give him something to drink, In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Our battle as saints is not physical but spiritual one. Fear makes all kinds of evil and unjust doing. That fear causes wars between nations and between people.

Let us rely on God not human way to do from fear. That comes from our sinful nature. Let us overcome that by faith to God so that can be blessed from God.

One faithful man has been losing many his business. He has many scars, but he has been relying on God and giving up what he had. God blessed him to keep his family and children and faith. He confessed God’ way is better than me.

God’s way is always right!

Matthew’s Gospel 5:44-45 say,

“That you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rains on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

God be with all of you, Amen.
