Sermon English Text AKFPC / August 17, 2025 Rev. Yongjin Park
“Resolve The Holy Will” (Daniel 1:15-20)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
“K POP Demon Hunters” a remarkable animation is recently prevailing upon people in world. All music and movie charts indicate this movie to be top of world in almost two months.
As PSY’s Gangnam Style was prevailing in the world 10years ago, this animation is striking heart of people in the world.
Mulan, a Disney animation was remarkable movie based on China culture but victorious story overcoming obstacle as woman in any societies with brave and integrity.
All society has obstacles to anybody. Matter is how we can overcome them. If there is a story overcoming that, all are symphonized and impressed. They are impressive, people are singing songs of Ke De Hun, the movie. They seem to be free from any obstacles with their own identity.
Maggie Kang, the film director of the movie grew up Canada from 5 years old after immigration from Korea. When she visited Korea to see her family, she was impressed by Korean culture and tradition.
She introduced lots of positive ideas from them toward people in the world with this great animation having wonderful stories to overcome general obstacles that everybody confronts in their life. She adopted ideas from traditional Korean myths as demon stories.
That is result of her work as a story of K Pop girl group hunting demons. When people listen the brave girls' stories, they are symphonized as well. They can remember moments with their grandparents or parents in young age.
Today Bible shows us the touching moment of people of God once they listened Word of God after rebuilding wall temple.
Let us read together Nehemiah 8:8-12.
“They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read. Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is sacred to the Lord your God, Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law. Nehemiah said, “God and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” The Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, for this is s sacred day. Do not grieve.” Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understand the words that had been made known to them.”
People of Israel has accomplished completion of rebuilding temple and Wall in about 20 years under interruptions of various enemies. When they saw the final step of completion, they wanted to listen Word of God. And they listened the Word of God through Ezra and scribes, they were weeping due to touching their heart. And Nehemiah gave them great food, and they pleased with great celebration with Word of God. They confessed that God have been with them.
This scene seems like we who come to listen to Word every Sunday amid daily life as wilderness.
Nehemiah 9:20-21 say,
“You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst. For forty years you sustained them in the desert; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen.”
This confession was by people of Moses, but people of Nehemiah accepted their confession and now became our confession in life as wilderness.
People in wilderness and people in Exile and we are in same place of hard and painful life as wilderness. But God gave us the goof Spirit and manna to sustain us from the life as wilderness.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
What is the moment of healing our hurt soul?
It is time of listening Word of God. We are children of God, and we love Him with our all. When we worship and pray and praise, we are touched and feel connected with Him.
When we listen voice of God we are impressed. Weeping and healing and strengthening are in worship to God. This is evidence of being children of God.
A faithful man was weeping once hearing Word of God in worship service. He was asked what touched him. He answered that he remembered a moment with his parents to have worship service at his young age. He said, now I can understand parents on why they came to worship so diligently. They need Him desperately as I do.
Let us come to the Lord to be close and be humble before Him to listen voice of God.
The pride mind has no space to listen Word but the humble has enough space to receive Word. His Word fill our heart and life with grace from God.
When Apostles Paul was pride, he could not listen Word. His life was tough and hard. But after being humble in Damascus, he could listen voice of God through Annanias, a servant of God and became great leader of world church.
Let us return the first moment to see our Father in heaven and worship and praise Him to glory and serve His people to heal.
when we obey Him, His Spirit will be with us to heal and restore.
Isaiah 55:3 say,
“Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live, I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”
One faithful lady who came to church with her parents at a young age became mother of children after growing up. She is bringing up her children as her parents did. She confesses “I grew up lots of love from God and people with faith. I want to give it to my children as I received it. I can’t not image that my children live without love from God. This is best blessing!
Psalm 130:5-6 say,
“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word, I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.”
God be with all of you, Amen.
