“People Bow Down to Worship” (Exodus 12:21-27)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Jim Lovell, Real person of Tom Hanks starred in a movie “Apollo 13” in 1995 was passed away yesterday. He was the captain of Apollo 13 of NASA in 1970, 56 years ago. When his spaceship Apollo closed the moon, it suddenly broke down due to an important part bad.
He had to return the spaceship with unable control condition by gravity assist. It was very difficult mission for 3 astronauts in the broken spaceship to return to earth safely.
Jim was an experienced pilot and astronaut to drive “Apollo 8” two years ago 1968 to moon. He took a famous picture “Earthrise from moon”. He had read Genesis 1:5 “God called the light “day” and the darkness he called “night” And there was evening, and there was morning, the first day.” then.
They tried to go down by lander not spaceship with great danger conditions. Jim finally succeeded in returning safely to the earth with his two astronauts. All people in world praised them and their brave.
Today Bible let us know how people who see hand of God praise.
Let us read together Exodus 12:23-27.
“When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your house and strike you down. “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants. When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. And when your children ask you, “What does this ceremony mean to you?” Then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.”
When Israel people did exodus, God did strike down Egyptians except people of Israel. God instructed them Put blood of lamb on top and sides of doorframe to pass over the house. And they obeyed and were saved. Once they heard this order from God, they were thankful and did bow down and worship to God with big Thanksgiving.
In Bible there are three cases of bowing down to worship to God.
First, in Genesis 47, Jacob bowed down on staff to God after giving final word to Joseph. He was very graceful when God had done everything good in his life.
Genesis 47:31 say,
“Swear to me, he said, Then Joseph swore to him, and Israel worshipped as he leaned on the top of his staff.”
Jacob lost his wife Rachel at her young age and her son Joseph disappeared at his younger age as well. He had to have painful life due to these two lovely ones’ dignities. But he understood that God had done great thing as his wonderful salvation plan through his tiny life. So, he bowed down to worship God.
Wisemen from east visited baby Jesus when God sent his only Son as incarnation for human salvation. They bowed down once they saw him worship.
Matthew’s Gospel 2:11 say,
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and incense and myrrh.”
They worshipped by bowing down because God has done his great plan of saving human being from sin and judgement through incarnation.
Worship and praise are our ultimate expression to God when we recognize hand of God saving us from death and sin.
People of Israel worshipped God when they saw hand of God saving them from severe slave. Jacob worshipped God when he saw great hand of God saving his family.
Wisemen worshipped God when they saw gift of our salvation, God’s son by bowing down.
Worship is done when we recognize God’s salvation and protection on us.
If one thinks of his own ability and luck, it has done everything. They cannot do anything to worship God. Only one recognizing God’s hand can worship to God. Only one confessing God is good and great can worship as well.
Brothers and sisters!
Let us learn Word of God every day to worship well. We cannot live without God as fish cannot live without water. If we leave worship, our faith will be dying. Secular thoughts and sinful mind will fill with our heart vastly, so we go far from God. There might become the life without worship, prayer, praise. This will be as cancer that cannot feel until death of faith. This is dangerous condition of faith
If repentance with weeping and passion happen, there is living faith still. Let us return to God as you can. Let us leave the comfortable secular world once you love God the Lord.
Matthew’s Gospel 3:2 say,
“and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
Let us bow down to worship God with praise and prayer.
One man left church after struggling with others and forget God in his life. But years later when he listened to Word on the radio channel tears were flowing suddenly. His life was not happy after leaving worship. He recognized that he cannot live without God. He recovered his faith through worshipping again and his soul became comfortable and peaceful in church worship. His relationship with God was reconnected well in last his life.
Isaiah 43:7 say,
“everyone who is called by name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
God be with all of you, Amen.
