“Jesus, Remember Me” (Luke’s Gospel 23:39-43)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

Anthropic is an AI company formed by some AI engineers from Open AI few years ago. Their AI technologies is best, so US government has adapted their skills in war on Venezuela and Iran.

Biomedical recognition, face recognition, voice recognition, body temperature recognition are base of these technologies.

CEO Dario Amodei asked government if they used it during war to follow their ethical guidelines and they might be no more helping to do it. But they might be quitted from contracts.

Anthropic is keeping asking no use on US citizens and autonomous killing AI function while their technologies use.

James Cameron, the director of “Titanic”, the shipwreck story, said in the last scene of the movie “We have forgotten that there were humans in the historical disaster while we are focusing on the accidental event”

It might be ongoing issue for us between life ethics and technologies in this era.

Today Bible let us know how much our Lord Jesus Christ love a soul to save in the last minute of his life.

Let us read together Luke’s Gospel 23:39-43,

“One of the criminal who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.””

When Jesus crucified on cross there were two men on crosses, one was left and the other was right. People wanted to hang two criminals with Jesus because they tried to show that Jesus was same criminal sinner.

Crucifixion was cruel tool of killing sinner, so empire of Rome did not
use for their citizens but use for colonial peoples. They hung sinner on cross for few days or a week till died.

Jesus had died in few hours after executed so a solider did spear his side to confirm death. Water and blood came from it when he was picked up.

Jesus said seven words on the cross. Luke’s Gospel 23:34 is one of them.

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Verse 46 is one of them also,

“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

Today verse 43 is one of them too.

“I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

This is beautiful story about a man who be saved at the last minute of his life.

One side criminal cursed Him while the other criminal confessed to Him. One was saved while the other was not.

In verse 42, the saved sinner said,

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

Jesus promised him the paradise with Lord.

He found in the last chance eternal life from the Lord by himself. He did not hesitate to confess his faith to the Lord. He was saved and got eternal life from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

Faith is thought. The thought to think Jesus as my Lord is faith itself. This thinking leads us to connect with the Lord. The man has been saved because of his faith to God.

Everybody can be saved by this confession to believe Jesus Christ as my personal savior.

Let us accept Lord Jesus Christ as my savior to save my life from all sin and to give eternal life from perishing.

We became believers having Lord Jesus through this faith and confession. And expressions of our faith are worship, praise, and prayed to God.

Nobody does these without faith to God. We are chosen to be His children to glorify the risen Lord.

I attended first time worship service a Presbyterian church in US when I came in for study twenty-five years ago. Congregations sang a beautiful song then on Palm Sunday. The song moved me so much while singing together. The song came from French Christian tradition. Let us sing together today as well to meditate Jesus on cross for our salvation.

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

This song leads us to feel Jesus’s love on sinner to be saved.

E.B. Marlatt write a beautiful song from today Bible verse as well.

Hymn 461 verse 2 say,

“Are you able to remember, When a thief lifts up his eyes, That his pardoned soul is worthy Of a place in paradise? “Lord, make us able” Our spirit its are Thine. Remold them, make us, Like Thee, divine. Thy guiding radiance above us shall be A beacon to God, To live and loyalty.”

In Luke’ Gospel 23:47, the centurion, seeing what had happened. praised God and said,

“Surely this was a righteous man.”

Let us confess today as the man did to Lord Jesus Christ,

“Jesus! remember me when you come into your kingdom”

God be will all of you. Amen.
