“The Place Of The Last Supper” (Matthew’s Gospel 26:25-35)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Cheongryongpo, Youngwol, Kwangwondo, a historical tour place of Dangong King’s last confined house of Chosun dynasty has been vastly increasing due to influence of Movie “The man living with the King”. More than ten million peoples watched this movie last week. I saw it with friend few days ago at a cinema theater, Austin.
This movie describes about a common man serving a dethroned young king with love. It was story based on historical facts. The young king was killed by his uncle in midst of power game to get sovereign. But common people have been missing and commemorating even though till now
The man, Heungdo Eom later secretly buried the killed young, enthroned king against new king’s law and has fled with changing his identity. People have loved his brave actions to sacrifice his life for the pity king.
All people have loved doing and thinking even under complicated circumstances.
Today Bible let us know the last conversation between Jesus Christ and his disciples in Last Supper before crucifixion. Jesus showed them real love.
Let us read together Matthew’s Gospel 26:25-28,
“Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “Yes, it is you.” While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Before arrested, Jesus Christ had the last dinner with his disciples at table of Pass Over holiday celebration. But Judas betrayed already to take over Jesus to his enemy, leaders of the people. Jesus Christ has known about this, but he did not let him stop and instead gave “Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “Yes, it is you.” While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
The chance to repent but he did keep his mind to betray. And after dinner Judas left there and went back to take his teacher with enemy people. That dinner was last time to meet him as disciples.
Jesus Christ said, “the one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.” but Judas did not repent and he hide his intention to betray saying “Surely, not I, Rabbi?”
He had chosen the unjust way instead the just way due to lust for secular success. He sold his teacher who walked with three years for gospel of God.
We are living everyday with this kind of spiritual struggle in heart and mind. Which way must we choose? Just or unjust?
Other disciples were powerless to keep their Lord. They did not know any information on Jesus’ arrest by their enemies. They did not recognize it and did not prepare for it. They just relied on their teacher even though evil plan comes close toward them to destroy all they have.
They had lip service to assure protecting their teacher without any responsibility. Lord Jesus Christ however showed them Word to love each other through bread and wine and washing feet of them. The last one that Jesus Christ wanted to teach them at the last moment is to trust the power of love and the power of grace of God.
Lord encouraged the incompetent disciples in the last supper. He trusted them to build the kingdom of God even though They are weak as human. Lord trusted them once God would give them Holy Spirit someday they can deliver the gospel of God and build sovereign of God in the world.
Peter assured to protect Lord once others run away from, saying “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.”
Jesus said to him, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”
Disciples did not know what they will do and how they will disown their Lord due to fear of death. But Lord did not give up on them because they lived with three years seeing all teachings and miracles in Lord. That experience with Lord is the great source to deliver gospel of Jesus Christ future. Actually, they became later great workers for kingdom of God to build people of the Lord in the world.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
The experiences with our Lord Jesus Christ will make us great in serving His kingdom of love and grace. Please make more experience in Sprit and Word from God so that God will make you better and greater for gospel of the Lord.
Let us walk with God and serve with God and listen with Word. This will lead us right and love way of God. Memories with the Lord made disciples wonderful servants of God later.
Secular world plants secular and sinful power in our heart but Lord plants love and grace in our heart. World sacrificed life of Jesus Christ for their benefit, but our Lord sacrificed himself for all our life and our salvation on the cross in Calvary.
The more this sinful world block love of God, the more gospel of Jesus Christ spread in the heart of humans.
The power of the world cannot defeat the power of loving God. Because all humans are created by love of God creator.
We are children of God following the way of loving Lord Jesus Christ who sacrificed himself for others life. When we follow His way, we become great and wonderous. But we follow world’s way we lose our great and spiritual strength in the world.
Let us follow the way of the Lord with love and thanksgiving.
Lord said in Matthew’s Gospel 5:43-44,
“you have heard that it was said, “Love your neighbor and hate your enemy,” but I tell you; love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
We can overcome this sinful world that world scoffs. This loving way our Lord Jesus Christ has proven at Cross on Calvary. And his disciples Peter and John have proved in their life of gospel.
Ghandi has proved this way of loving Jesus Christ in demonstrating way of love for his nation independence movement a half centenary ago.
Matthew’s Gospel 5:47-38 say,
“And if you greed only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father id perfect.”
