Sermon English Text AKFPC / June 7, 2026  Rev. Yongjin Park

“Christ And Our Fellowship” (I John 1:1-4)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

“Nocolas Clude Fabri de Peiresc” was a French astronomer who found “Orien Nebula” by astronomical scope and made a way to calculate solar eclipse. He endeavored to build network of scientists and scholars “Republic of Letters” that shared research and ideas about natural sciences including Earth’s orbit, rotation and revolution through his great number of letters to be sent to others.

On 1635 he proved Earth is round through having people see eclipse in Europe and Mediterranean and Africa while Galileo Galilei was summoned to Inquisition, Catholic church court.

He contributed to proving natural facts in a gradual way rather than Galileo with radical way in human history enlightenment and social change.

Revolutionary ideas are adopted not by radical movement but by gradual way as persuasion or controversy. That is why Chinese Tiananmen Square Incident and Arab Spring were failed while US Civil Right Movement and South Korea Democracy were successful.

There were not enough discussions to deepen their thought and idea for fermentation.

Gal Beckerman said in his book “The Quiet Before” true social change comes not from temporary outcry but from deep contemplation.

True human change as well comes not from temporary incidents but from deep meditation and enough thinking.

When we think about enough God through Word, we can earn the exact meaning of being and self. Radical moment of life can be helpful to know God but the deep faith is formed by long and deep contemplation.

Let us read together I John 1:1-4,

“The Word that gives life was from the beginning, and this is the one our message is about. Our ears have heard, our own eyes have seen, and our hands touched this Word. The one who gives life appeared! We saw it happen, and we are witnesses to what we have seen. Now we are telling you about this eternal life that was with the Father and appeared to us. We are telling you what we have seen and heard, so that you may share this life with us. And we share in it with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing to tell you these things, because this makes us a truly happy.”

Apostles John confessed that he has seen “The Word” from the beginning and touched Him “The life” which is Jesus Christ incarnated human.

And he says too that we share in it with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And this is our happiness.

Verse 5 says,

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”

Light is good life while darkness is evil life. God hates sin and dark life and loves good and just life.

Verse 7 say,

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

When we keep clean and just life, we can keep fellowship with one another, and blood of Jesus Christ keep us from all sin.

Verse 9 say,

“if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Repentance is blessing. We must clean our sins everyday as we wash our body to keep heath. Through everyday repentance we can be cleaned to go toward God by blood of Jesus Christ.

When Zacchaeus repented, many of the poor were obtained much. Once the evil person repented, all neighbors were blessed.

When young Paul repented, there was no more chase. Once a dangerous person was changed by grace of God, grace of God prevailed on all people.

God makes our heart changed by Holy Spirit, blood of Jesus Christ makes us repent, The Word of God makes our eyes opened. So that God guides us to walk in the light of God from darkness.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

God works in us with Word and grace. He does not push anything to us he waits for us to accept everything that He prepared. His perseverance forms not by secular cry outs but by secret persuasion in meditation and deep Bible reading. Let us read carefully Bible, Word of God as you can. And keep praying and meditating on what the exact meaning of God is.  When we understand who God is and who we are, we can eventually see grace and love of God upon us.

David confessed God as this in Psalm 1:2-3

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law, he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither, whatever he does prosper.”

Rev. Seonjoo Gkil was teacher of Confucianism but once he read 100 times Bible reading, he found who God is and became one of great leaders of Great Awakening in Korea.

Apostles Paul wrote book of 13 Letters in New Testament, John wrote 5, Luke wrote 2. They all guided many souls by their wonderful writing on God and Christ and Holy Spirit to Lord.

Let us try to know God and his work through reading, studying, mediating, and practicing every day until God works in us with Grace and love.

I John 4:2 say,

“This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every Sprit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.”

God be with all of you, Amen.
